Situated near Old Naples, Baker Park is a perfect balance of hip city life and the natural beauty that makes Southwest Florida a vacation hotspot. While there are a number of things that families can do at this park, our family enjoys it in our own unique way. This morning I just had my two youngest, 3 & 1. I started off by lugging out my Joovy double stroller. Once the kids were situated and given snacks and drinks we took off toward the bridge over the Gordon River. A beautiful great blue heron flew overhead. On the bridge we saw boats passing under and more off in the distance.

Then we head to a favorite spot to look for crabs.

Next we head to a little creek. No fish today, but it sure was pretty.

All the while we hear the planes roaring and taking off from the nearby municipal airport. After finishing our walk we head to one of the play areas hidden off one of the walking paths.

Finally, we head to the huge open play area.

Baker Park is one of my favorites these days. In the past, however, this park would have been on my list of no-goes. When my eldest and middle child were in their running off stage this would have been a very dangerous excursion. The play area is not fenced in. There are a couple areas completely open to the street. Right now I am home with my two littles most of the time. My just three year old is a pretty good listener. SO this park works for us at this stage. With my special needs kiddo’s it is necessary to go as a family for those extra helping hands.
I love the sidewalks, boardwalks, hills, the ability to see the river and boats. I love spotting herons, egrets, osprey, crabs, black racers. Nature meets city!
